Scare Crow by Julie Hockley blog tour with review and giveaway

Nineteen-year-old Emily Sheppard is losing her sanity.

Ever since her mob king boyfriend, Cameron Hillard, abandoned her for her own good, Emmy has been attempting to move on with her charmed college student life as if nothing happened. Now rejected from the underworld and left grieving over Cameron’s alleged death.

Emmy realizes she belongs nowhere. Worse yet, she is now keeping a dangerous secret.

After just a short time with Emily, Cameron has lost control over his world. As he miserably attempts to return to what is left of his life and unravel the mess he has made of the underworld, Emily’s hate turns to desperation. She needs to kill the kingpins responsible for Cameron’s death before they come looking for her. As Cameron secretly observes Emily, he has no idea of the danger he has placed her in—or that it may already be too late for him to save her.

Scare Crow is a tale of revenge, terror, and love as Emmy and Cameron embark on separate journeys to face enemies, correct past mistakes, and find their way to their destinies.

My Review
4 Stars

First off, let me start by saying that this book was the most highly anticipated sequel for me since I started reading a number of years ago. I sat down the night before Thanksgiving in 2012 and i started reading Crow's Row. I could NOT put it down. So much so that on Thanksgiving day i didn't do anything until I finished reading. That ending damn near killed me and so i began stalking Facebook and Goodreads to find out about book 2. I fell in love with Cam and Em and to this date Crow's Row is still one of my favorite books.

With that being said it pains me to say that Scare Crow fell a bit flat for me. Maybe its because I was craving it so bad and I had ideas in my head of how the story was going to play out? That wasn't the case and all of my ideas were thrown right out the window with this book. It was nothing at all like I expected it to be, and i hate that I feel that way. I wanted, no needed more of Cam and Em's relationship and i didn't exactly get that. This book is told in dual POV though so you get to experience what both Cam and Em are going through while they are separated.

Emily is left broken hearted at the end of book one and her pain and suffering is still very much present in this book. I love that she is still such a strong, kick ass heroine and her need for revenge fuels her.

Revenge is a strange thing. It tests you. It changes you. It makes you do things that you would have never thought yourself capable of doing.

That is until it isn't just her safety she has to worry about. Just when Emily thinks she is alone in the world (though she has Meatball by her side...I LOVE that dog) a blast from the past shows up and helps Emily get through day to day life and helps to protect her.

We get to see a different side to Cameron too. We feel his heartbreak as he watches Emily from a distance, questioning himself on if he will really be able to let her go.

"There would never be another. For her or for me"

I love the soft side of Cam that we get to see when he's with Emmy.

"The Cameron i knew, the real Cameron, had been gracious and fair. He had been warm. Tender. When you saw him-when he let you see him-Cameron was exquisite. He was all my love."

I also really enjoyed seeing him work as the "boss" of the underworld. He is cut throat and no holds barred. But things are changing quickly in the underworld. Cracks are forming and relationships are being tested. Trust is being lost and all of this is setting up for one big explosion.

A big explosion that i'm sure will happen in BOOK 3!!!!!! Yes you read that correctly. Julie Hockley announced that "there will be a third and final book in the series." You see, when i first finished this book i was mad. Completely pissed off because i was left with so many more questions than answers and I had no idea that there was more coming. Now, with this knowledge, I can see that this book was a set up for the third and final book in terms of the situations arising in the underworld and Cam and Emmy's relationship, but i did feel that a lot of this book was filler and not necessary.

I gave this book 4 stars because despite the fact that the plot fell a bit flat for me, there is no denying the fact the Ms. Hockley can write. She has talent and can easily hook the reader from page one. My emotions flew high with this book, whether i was screaming mad, smiling, or crying alongside of Emmy. The emotions were there there and they were all over the place. I wont deny that this book left me wanting, craving more of Cam and Emmy and I can only hope that I don't have to wait another 2 years for book 3.

A former germaphobe and clean-freak turned mother of two, Julie collects enough tears and snot in a month to recreate Slimer Monster from Ghostbusters. Other than playing devoted wife and mama, Julie is the funniest person in the room (according to the 3 year-old and 2 year-old in said room) and can build the most awesome Lego rocket ship you’ve ever set your eyes on (according to her). Oh, and she has a full time career and has also written a bestselling novel. Superhero, or just downright insane?
