Synopsis
We're thirteen girls, captive, slave to our master.
A master we've never seen.
Obedience will become all we know in our shallow existence. It is the only emotion we're permitted to feel.
When we're bad, we're punished. When we're good, we're rewarded.
Our scars run deep. Yet we survive, because we have to...
because HE teaches us to.
All of us are special, we feel it with everything we are.
He has us for a reason, but it's a reason we don't know.
We've never seen his face, but we know that something deeply broken lies beneath the darkness. With every touch, with every punishment, we know it.
Then something changed.
He showed me who he truly is.
Now I want him.
I'll go against everything I know to be with him.
A monster.
My monster.
Loving him is a sin, but a sinner I am. I won't stop until I see every part of him. Even the parts he keeps locked deep down inside.
I am Number Thirteen, and this is my story.
No one said it was pretty, or right, but it's mine.

This isn't a bdsm book, it isn't a dark romance either. It's different! Good
different.
At 13 years of age William was the victim of a sever bullying attack, which has
forever changed his life. His father has basically disowned him and he refers to
himself as a monster; he believes he is a monster. The actions of these bullies
have changed William’s life in more ways than one. This event has shaped who
William has become.
Taken in by Master William, 13 girls have no recollection of who they are or
where they come from. We, the readers are given snippets of information pulling
us into the story, guessing as where these girls are from? What are their pasts?
Why does William have them?
Waking in a dark cell, surrounded by other women, Number thirteen finds only one
similarity. Their tattoos, each girl has a number ranging from 1-13. Why 13? The
girls are soon given information that they will be working for Master William,
tending to his home. He splits them into groups, which we discover is based upon
their pasts.
“We’re all here, and we don’t know why, but we can stick together. We can help
each other. We can be there for each other. We’ll find a way out, but if we
crumble, we’ll have nothing left.”
William is very mysterious and the women never get to see him completely, if
they are around him, it is in darkness with a blindfold, he is tender, and
loving if you behave. If you do wrong, you will be punished accordingly. For
every action there is a reaction. Over time a bond forms between William and the
girls. He is intrigued with number thirteen which leads them to sharing a deeper
bond than the others.
"I’m looking for a lover, Number Thirteen. I’m not looking to be loved. You are
looking for something that isn’t there if you think I can ever give you more. I
am not the kind of man to ride up and change your world with one kiss, with one
fuck. I am the darkness in the shadows; I’m the one no one wants to see. I’m the
faded man.”
While we thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, we were left wanting more. The
ending for us felt left open. We both have a few unanswered questions and are
hoping that Bella will take us on another journey with these characters.
