Strings of the Heart by Katie Ashley review

Title: Strings of the Heart

Author: Katie Ashley

 Release Date: May 12th

Synopsis

Twenty year old, Allison Slater has been in love with her brother’s bandmate, Rhys McGowan, since she was fifteen years old. But to him, she’ll always be Jake’s little sister and off limits. Now a college sophomore and licking her wounds from a bad breakup, she sets her sights on making Rhys see her as someone he could date…maybe even love. Her opportunity comes when Rhys visits his parents in Savannah where she is attending college. But the night she’s dreamed of turns to heart-break, and she realizes she’ll never be the one for Rhys.

For Rhys McGowan, his nightmare began when he woke up, naked and hung-over, next to his bandmate’s little sister. Unable to remember a thing from the previous night, he only makes matters worse by lying to Allison about not being interested in her. The truth is he’s spent the last year to ignore his body’s reaction whenever Allison is around. His resolve is tested when Allison comes on tour with Runaway Train, as both Jake and Abby’s nanny and to fulfill her fashion design internship. The more time he spends with her in the close quarters of the bus, the harder it is for him to resist.

Will Rhys realize that having a relationship with Allison is worth fighting for even if it means that he has to fight his best friend for a chance?

My Review

5 Stars

Katie Ashley has done it again!!! Strings of the Heart is book three in the Runaway Trains series and is the story of Rhys and Allison. I loved all of the books in this series but this is definitely my favorite! Rhys and Allison's story was so heartfelt and my heart broke for both Rhys and Allison on several occasions.

Allison Slater has been in love with Rhys McGowan for as long as she can remember. Her real life hero at the young age of 10, Allison's seemingly innocent girl crush turned into so much more over the years. For her sweet sixteen she asked Rhys to be her first "real" kiss. He obliges and that kiss just reinforces just how much she wants him. But things weren't ever simple for them.

"Deep down, I believed that someday we would be together. All the things that kept us apart for now—my age, what my parents and Jake would think, his celebrity status—they wouldn’t matter. "

Rhys McGowan has it all. The looks, the money, the fame and the girls. Plenty of them. Except the one that he cant have...because Allison Slater is off limits. She is Jake's little sister. But when Rhys goes home to visit his family, he begins spending a lot of time with Allison. This was probably the my favorite part of the story...watching the two of them develop a relationship and spending time together, just the two of them.

You know, the one thing I love about you, Allison, is that I don't feel like I need to censor myself. Even though you are Jake's little sister and I probably should watch myself, I can be exactly who I am".

After a hellish night at his parent's house Rhys and Allison dig out a bottle of tequila. Things never go as planned when tequila is involved. The two end up sharing a hot, passionate night together and Allison wakes up thinking that her and Rhys will finally be together. Rhys wakes up thinking he made a big mistake and lies to Allison (and himself) about his feelings for her.

I'll just try not to think each and every time i see you that you're the man who didn't just break my heart-you shattered it."

When Allison goes on tour with Runaway Train to help Jake and Abby with the twins, she and Rhys can no longer avoid each other. The tension between them could be cut with a knife and people begin picking up on it. Yet Rhys still fights his feelings for Allison while she still calls him out, letting him know that he can fool himself but he cant fool her. Emotions and tension are flying high on the tour bus. Will Rhys be true to his heart before he loses the one girl who will love him unconditionally? Can Allison look past the hurt and pain of the past for a chance at happiness with the man who has held her heart since she was a kid? And how will Jake handle all of this? You didn't think I was gonna give that all away, did you? You will need to read to fins out.

Katie Ashley did a phenomenal job with this story. While it was very much a love story, I enjoyed the emphasis that was placed on the importance of family. Rhys's relationship with his sister was so sweet and heart-warming. Jake's love for Allison and his desire to protect her was also sweet. And I have to say that almost all of the scenes with AJ had me hysterical laughing. Just as much as i was feeling sad for Rhys or Allison, there was a bit of humor just around the corner to lighten the mood. Overall, Strings of the Heart was another fantastic read by Katie Ashley and I highly recommend it!
